As a cigarette brand Lucky Strike was introduced in 1916. Before that a smoking mixture was offered under the Lucky Strike name. American Tobacco Company is the manufacturer of the brand.
First packages of Lucky Strike were dark green colored. They also carried a message reading “L.S./M.F.T.” (Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco). Later, during the war, the packages were redesigned switching to white mainly, with the red and white logo we see today.

The sixties saw Lucky Strike cigarettes television commercials under the slogan "Lucky Strike separates the men from the boys... but not from the girls". After cigarette advertising of this kind (meaning references that a cigarette can positively influence one’s psychological image) was banned by American laws, Lucky Strike marketers faced a serious task of inventing new strategies.

Lucky Strike cigarettes with filters appeared on the market only in the mid sixties. At this stage the market for filtered cigarettes was already established (by Kent and Winston, for instance), so Lucky Strike heavy advertising campaign quickly gained the brand a considerable share of the market.

Raymond Loewy, a leading industrial designer who had created the logotypes for Shell and Exxon, developed Lucky Strike's logo which we can still observe these days on cigarette packages of this wonderful brand.
